Animal Rescue: It Takes a Village

Thank you for the interest, but we are no longer accepting applications for the Dachshunds.

Picture this:
A man in rural Arizona living in a small travel trailer with over 50 Dachshunds. The story is true and friends of Terri Bondi with Save Underdogs, a foster-based canine rescue in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, reached out
to see if she could help.

The dogs had been well cared for but the man, who fed the dogs before feeding himself, was no longer able to care for them. The shelter in that area was his only option and the future looked grim for the dogs, as not many adoptions took place from there.

By the time Terri received the call, there was only one day to spare and she sprang into action and arranged to pay transporters to leave right away and bring the dogs back to Florida to safety.

Alaqua Animal Refuge works with many rescues like Save Underdogs and quickly agreed to split the transport costs and the dogs with them. Twenty seven of the precious, long-bodied dogs arrived late Sunday evening! Applications have poured in as well, so they are all guaranteed to be in loving homes soon!

We are grateful to so many who stepped up to save the lives of thesedachshund-rescue-3 dogs. It truly takes a village!

Want to help?  Alaqua depends on donations to operate our no-kill facility and your support allows us to continue to be able to take in these large cases.
